    About the Responsibilities

    The Machine Shop Team functions to provide Central Arizona Project with internal expertise to maintain our large and geographically dispersed industrial mechanical systems. CAP is seeking a highly skilled, highly motivated Machinist / Mechanic to provide journeyman-level technical expertise in the performance and support of this vital function.

    + This position requires extensive machining skills with turning, milling, and grinding machines, large and small, manual, portable, and CNC.

    As aMachinist / Mechanic, you would be responsible for precision machine operation including computer numerical control (CNC), manual and field machining in support of the overhaul and repair of heavy industrial mechanical equipment associated with large pumping plants, generation stations, check structures, turnouts and aqueducts. Equipment includes synchronous motors, large pumps, hydroelectric turbines, radial gates and hoists, slide gates and hydraulic operator systems. Work assignments are primarily at the Headquarters Machine Shop but, at times throughout their employment, incumbents may be assigned to work at other locations across the Central Arizona Project system, as needs dictate. Occasional overnight travel will be required throughout the work week.

    About the Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    + Completed state or federal certified mechanical apprenticeship; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and demonstrated ability.

    + Three (3) years journeyman-level work experience in an industrial mechanical environment with technical and specialized knowledge; or completion of the CAP mechanical apprenticeship program (or other apprenticeship deemed comparable to CAP apprenticeship by management).

    + Possess a strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems and controls and the ability to troubleshoot.

    + Is highly proficient in the safe use of proper tools and equipment for precision measuring and testing, fabricating, calibrating, reconditioning, maintaining and repairing in an industrial mechanical environment.

    + Knowledgeable of industrial safety requirements including hazardous energy control protocols.

    + Computer usage and data entry skills.
