Job Description - System Operator - Transmission Control (System Supervisor)
We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of System Supervisor, Transmission System Control. The successful candidate will control the transmission of electrical power within the Company’s electrical system in a way which optimizes cost, continuity of service, and safety to Company personnel, the general public, and system equipment.

Position-Related Responsibilities
Controls and supervises transmission of electrical power within the Company-owned electrical system.
Has the responsibility and authority to implement real time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System and take appropriate actions including, but not limited to, curtailing energy schedules, shedding load and/or dropping generation as directed by the Company’s Generation System Supervisors.
Responsible to direct Generator Operators, Balancing Authorities, Distribution Providers, other Transmission Operators, and TEPC personnel, as needed, to maintain the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.
Coordinates outages and scheduled maintenance on equipment on the bulk electric system with adjacent balancing areas and WECC Reliability Coordinators.
Responsible for evaluating and complying with WECC Reliability Coordinator Directives.
Reviews and approves routine and emergency requests for electrical system clearances and holds to assure safe conditions for personnel whose job assignments involve those electrical facilities.
Maintains prescribed voltage levels throughout the electrical system and directs any necessary load switching on the electrical system as may be required to maintain proper levels.
Monitors and operates the TEP transmission system to ensure compliance with respect to Two-County bond requirements.
Calculates line configurations, system short circuit and proper settings, for system protective relaying, fusing, and initiates and directs settings under routines and emergency situations.
Prepares and maintains reports, graphs, flow sheets, and system load forecasts and local generation requirements pertaining to system operation and confirmation and updates as necessary to ensure accurate documentation.
Conducts final testing of any equipment additions or modifications prior to connection with the electrical system to assure compatibility with facilities and continued integrity of the electrical system.
Coordinates preventative maintenance requirements of electrical system facilities according to system load and conditions to ensure continued reliability.
Maintains current NERC Operator certification.
Responsible for complying with all WECC and NERC Reliability Standards and FERC requirements
Responsible for facilitating on-the-job training for System Supervisor Trainees.
Assign work to Associate System Supervisors, evaluate and approves work completed to assure satisfactory progress and performance.
This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
NERC Certification
3 years Bulk Electric System Operator (BES) Experience.
The ability to evaluate information, and make decisions in a timely manner, during situations that can be moderately to extremely stressful.
The ability to communicate effectively with other departments within the Company, other Balancing Authorities, and any other affected entities, both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
A thorough knowledge of Tucson Electric Power generation resources and EHV transmission system knowledge of the WECC Transmission system, especially the southwest area Transmission system.
A thorough knowledge of WECC and NERC Standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
A thorough understanding of Company policies, procedures, standards, rules, and regulations as they pertain to the operation of the company’s generation and transmission
Pay Rate: $94,803 - $106,653+ per year depending on experience
