Summary

The HS&E Engineer III develops and conducts activities and programs to help prevent accidents, eliminate health and safety hazards and achieve compliance with current health, safety, and environment (HS&E) regulations and Department of Energy (DOE) directives.

Duties and Responsibilities

+ Field and respond to HS&E discipline specific questions and concerns from facility, customer, regulators, and/or corporate requests.

+ Investigate, escalate, report, and present on good catches, near misses, or incidents.

+ Attend and provide HS&E support for internal departmental or other facility departmental meetings.

+ Regularly perform inspections, Gembas, or assessments of the facility and HS&E programs to improve HS&E culture and awareness.

+ Maintain, track progress, and complete HS&E related tasks in various action tracking systems/lists (RAIL, Compliance Calendar, CATSWeb, MST, etc.).

+ Review, comment, provide direction and approval on requested facility changes (i.e., Management of Change process, facility design reviews, etc.)

+ Update, create, review, make improvements, and track completion to/of discipline specific trainings and program documents.

+ Collect, review, and report out on applicable samples.

+ Participate in and work corrective actions related to audits from various parties (internal, customer, ISO, corporate, etc.)

+ Actively participate in divisional level strategic projects, committee meetings, professional organizations, and other applicable groups.

+ Routinely review information to evaluate risk and make updates to business risk assessment and any supporting trainings, documentations, or business awareness as needed.

+ Support technical/strategic projects that impact the business.

+ Complete all task required for the business to maintain compliance for the applicable HS&E discipline/program.

+ Help to guide discipline specific decisions and paths for the business, using technical experience and an understanding for mitigating different requirement interpretations.

+ Work with plant supervision, union representation and employees to resolve HS&E concerns. Prepare applicable reports required by NNSA and other Customers.

+ Provide advice to HS&E Engineers I and II to assist in their efficient completion of assigned responsibilities.

+ Design, lead, and monitor management projects to achieve objectives in HS&E

+ Research/investigate, design, implement and/or manage HS&E systems, processes, projects and/or programs, and perform related risk assessment; may function as a business point of contact for one or more programs.

+ Coordinate the collection, interpretation and reporting and/or analysis of HS&E performance measures against initiatives, objectives, and milestones, assuring timely submittal and progress.

+ Develop, implement, and maintain a robust configuration management framework that outlines processes, policies, and procedures for managing software and hardware configurations throughout their lifecycle.

+ Maintain up-to-date documentation of configurations, training programs, security configurations and connections, software configurations, software management, Information Vulnerability updates and documentation.

+ Deliver training sessions and provide guidance to HSE staff and stakeholders.

You Must Have

+ Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Fire Protection, Emergency Management or related field and four or more years’ experience in HS&E

+ Ability to travel up to 5% of the time

+ Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business

+ United States Citizenship

+ Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)

+ Advanced degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Environmental, Fire Protection, or Emergency Management is preferred.

+ Ability to work independently, guide the work of others and understand, interpret and implement safety standards and procedures.

+ Ability to communicate clearly (written and oral) in one-on-one situations and group settings.

+ Ability to document information and data clearly and concisely.
