About the Position
Northern Arizona University's Sanghi College of Engineering is hiring one (1) Assistant Professor specializing in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering. This is a 9 month academic year position at the Flagstaff Mountain Campus in Flagstaff, Arizona. NAU is an emerging R1 institution (expected 2025); the R1 designation from the Carnegie Foundation is for doctoral-granting universities with the highest research activity at the forefront of research and innovation. This position is to support the growth of the Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering (MRE) program. This faculty will help develop and offer courses required by the program of study of the MRE degree and by the Mechanical Engineering degree. The faculty will also carry out competitive research in the Mechatronics and Robotics and closely related areas. This position will help the MRE program to move closer to achieving the critical faculty mass to offer a robust and highly sought after degree program.
Responsibilities Include:
• Developing and teaching courses and laboratories in the Mechatronics and Robotics and Mechanical Engineering degree programs
• Developing, Maintaining and Performing Mechatronics and Robotics as well as interdisciplinary research
• Publishing and presenting research findings in high impact journals and technical meetings/conferences
• Advising undergraduate and graduate students in research and academically
• Performing service to the Department, College and University
Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. or Sc.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, or closely related area conferred before August 16, 2025
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated expertise in the broad field of robotics and mechatronics.
• Research expertise that complements that existent in the department and college.
• Established record of scholarly productivity, as evidenced by scholarly publications in high profile journals and strong potential to build on this record.
• Established record of competitiveness for extramural funding and/or the promise of future ability to secure funding.
• Demonstrated experience translating research theory to applied robotic and mechatronics systems.
• University-level teaching experience with evidence of effectiveness and promise of future excellence.
• Demonstrated experience with and commitment to effectively working with others from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Advanced knowledge in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering and other engineering related areas

Compensation & Benefits
Commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election. FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
