Salary: Flexible Hours as decided by the Head Chef and the Director, or in 9-hour shifts at a rate $198.00 per 9-hour shift ($22.00/hour). Please note that this job is considered shift work and is not typically eligible for overtime pay.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Part time seasonal position, paid either by hour (pending your availability) or in 9-hour shifts (flexible breaks provided between meal service). The chef has the option of lodging at the Camp during the week or commuting for daily shifts. The chef is responsible for working with the Camp Director on meal planning and menu development, food ordering and storage, food inventory and oversight, preparing and serving meals, washing dishes and ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of kitchen equipment, supplies and facilities.

- As a core member of the Camp Colton team, ensures a positive, enjoyable and safe experience for student Campers, staff and visitors.
- Participates in and supports general Camp activities as kitchen duties allow.
- Orients Camp staff and teachers to kitchen facilities, volunteer duties and food safety protocol and procedure.
- Works with the Camp Nurse to address pertinent student-related food issues and informs the staff of all food related issues/accommodations.
- Orients and supervises kitchen volunteers (staff, teachers, students) according to Food Manger protocol/procedure.
- Manages and ensures the functionality and cleanliness of the Camp kitchen, pantries, refrigeration/freezer units, supplies and equipment.
- Informs the Camp Director of maintenance and or health/safety issues.
- Inventories food supplies and works with Camp Director to schedule weekly food order.
- Picks up, receives, inspects, and unloads weekly food/supply order.
- Plans, prepares, and serves meals and snacks provided by the Camp (up to 3 meals and two daily snacks)
- Washes dishes and cleans kitchen facilities after all meals and ensures the proper storage of foods and kitchen supplies according to food manager protocol/procedure.
- Performs miscellaneous camp duties, chores and cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned and in all weather conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Specific training or job experience required before appointment
Fingerprint clearance card, can obtain when hired.
Coconino County Department of Health Services Food Manager’s Certificate, can obtain when hired.
Valid divers license and ability to provide personal transportation to the Camp site.
Ability to receive authorization to drive FUSD vehicles upon hire.
Prior Camp or field-based kitchen experience desired.
Enjoys working in an outdoor setting and with children.
